CARETAKER OPPORTUNITIES

ALABAMA

HOUSESITTER/LANDSCAPER needed in Helena, a suburb of Birmingham,
from September 25 to December 15, 2017. In addition to our home,
we have beautiful gardens, so we are looking for a housesitter to
maintain both our house and gardens while we are away this Fall.
The climate of Helena is typical of the Deep South, with
relatively mild weather. Our private house, including utilities,
is offered to stay in for free in exchange for several hours a
day of taking care of our gardening needs. Our preference is for
a single, non-smoking person, who is financially secure since we
are not offering any compensation for this position. We received
many housesitter responses from our last ad in The Caretaker
Gazette - but not from housesitters who are able to do our
gardening work. We would appreciate hearing from housesitters who
would also enjoy some of our landscaping work out in our
beautiful garden area. Please email your interest and reasons for
wanting to take this housesitting assignment, let us know your
gardening background, and include your references to
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Thank you very much.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Hi Gary and Family, we would like to thank you for The Wonderful
Caretaker Gazette. My husband and I landed a job in Ojai, CA
through your publication and we're overjoyed. I still enjoy
reading the Gazette, even after finding this perfect job. Monica
and Fred D., Jamaica Plain, MA

Hi Monica and Fred, thanks for writing. We're always happy to
hear from our subscribers, especially when, like you, they share
great news about finding a caretaking position through the
Gazette. Please let us know how things work out for you and if
you'd like to publish a Caretaker Profile article in a future
issue of the Gazette. Our subscribers are always interesting in
reading other subscribers' stories about their caretaking
experiences.

Hi Gary, I wanted to let you know that the email ad I placed with
you last month was successful in that it resulted in me finding a
housesitting position at a beautiful Bed & Breakfast located in
the Sedona area. I will be there from late fall through early
spring. I am looking forward to interacting with guests
off-season and finding time to do some writing. Thanks so much
for your great service! I'm so glad I took your suggestion about
running my own ad. For anyone who is interested here is my ad
(see below) that got me such a great position. Have a great day!
Emily E., Denver, CO

Experienced, Energetic Single Female seeking a housesitting
position in Santa Fe or Taos, NM or Sedona, Arizona. Will also
consider positions within the surrounding area up to 20 miles. I
have 20 years of experience as a homeowner and a career in
hospitality. I can assist with most aspects of property
management including supervision of workers. References available
on request. Please email ...

Hi Emily, congratulations on your new housesitting position
and thanks for including your successful ad in your message. Many
of our subscribers who have considered running their own
Situations Wanted ads will be interested in reading your ad. We
have thousands of property owners who subscribe to the Gazette in
order to find people like yourself to housesit or caretake one of
their properties by reading through our Situations Wanted ads and
contacting our subscribers directly. Many of our
Situations-Wanted advertisers have told us that they receive
multiple offers to housesit or caretake properties.

I am having problems finding the Twitter postings on your
website. Where can I find the listings you put on your Twitter
feed? Vickie G. Sioux Falls, SD

Hi Vickie, our Twitter tweets feature new help wanted listings
that appeared in recent email updates that were emailed to all
our Gazette subscribers. The email updates that go out to
subscribers contain more detailed descriptions of the duties,
responsibilities, compensation, and contact information. In many
cases, our help wanted advertisers request that we feature a
summary of their ad and a photo on our Twitter feed.

Gary, with respect to renewal, I cannot afford it presently, but
I wish to tell you that this assignment you helped me find
through my Situations-Wanted ad in The Caretaker Gazette is
coming along very nicely! This property is gorgeous, and I even
have a new partnership opportunity if I can find someone(s)
willing to start an organic farm/fruit stand operation here in
Canada, so I'm trying to source that. I just need someone who
routinely has investment properties with caretakers on them
around the globe who would be interested in having one in Canada
to start a Cascadian-Farms like adventure. Small needle to
thread, but I'm trying! :) Thank you so much for your help!
Cheers! Guinevere A., Saint-Jacques, New Brunswick, Canada

Thanks for your message, Guinevere. I am happy to hear that
you found a great assignment through your Gazette Situations
Wanted ad. It sounds like your new position will allow you to
explore some very exciting and ambitious plans! Best of luck to
you and please keep us updated on your plans.

PROPERTY CARETAKER PROFILE

An Intentional Life - Buddy, Jillian, and Lily Valentine
Address: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Interests: Family and friends, the outdoors, nature, wildlife,
mountains, oceans, rivers, hiking, camping, fishing, rafting,
skiing, snowboarding, travel, and new experiences.
Quote: "For what it's worth ... it's never too late, or in my
case too early, to be whoever you want to be. There's no time
limit." - Eric Roth, "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"

Buddy, Jillian and Lily

We are Buddy, Jillian, and Lily Valentine, and our story begins
in 2014, the year we decided to change our lives. We were living
and working as winter caretakers on a beautiful rustic property
located an hour west of Cody, Wyoming, a few miles from the east
gate to Yellowstone National Park. Our home, in the Absaroka
Mountains of the Shoshone National Forest, was a small, rustic,
warm and cozy, log cabin surrounded by hundreds of miles of
wilderness and wildlife. Jillian and I also worked together at a
ski area located just a short snowmobile ride from our cabin. Our
daughter, Lily Rose Valentine was born on December 3, 2014 and we
enjoyed our first Christmas together, as a family, in our
mountain cabin. The birth of our daughter caused both of us to
reexamine our lives. We started spending more and more time
discussing what was important to us, and what was not. We
determined the first priority for us was to make every effort to
spend our lives together, living, working and experiencing life
as a family. Secondly we wanted to travel, experience new places
and cultures, build lasting relationships with diverse people,
discover new ideas, and learn, grow, and change. So, we started
making plans to live a more intentional life, and in the spring
of 2015 we signed up to The Caretaker Gazette.
In the spring of 2015, we moved to downtown Cody, and I worked
while Jillian stayed with Lily and searched the Gazette for the
right opportunity. I gladly accepted a seasonal job as an
adventure guide while Jillian and Lily took advantage of the
downtown life and enjoyed the hustle and bustle of tourist
season. During this time we also started eliminating any
possessions we didn't need. And by the fall of 2015 everything we
owned would fit in and/or on a small SUV, and we started
narrowing our focus for caretaker positions to northern
California, Oregon, and Washington with a specific focus on
organic, sustainable farms. We interviewed several times, with a
few farms, but having a child prevented most of the employers
from hiring us - usually stating that the housing was not
adequate for a family. We stayed in Cody through the winter while
I worked part-time at a local brewery as a line cook.
In the spring of 2016 we found a position we liked in The
Caretaker Gazette on a farm in Oregon's Applegate Valley. So we
applied and got a phone interview. The position wasn't the right
fit for us but the employer referred us to a farm they thought
would be perfect, and it was. The position we finally accepted
was a seasonal job at a small, sustainable, family owned, organic
ranch in Ashland, Oregon.
In May of 2016 we packed up our car with everything we owned and
headed west to Oregon. Our home in paradise was a 10x12 canvas
wall tent with a queen bed and a wood stove for furniture. We
served as camp hosts for the campground that included the four
wall tents, a primitive campground, beautiful restrooms and
outdoor showers, and a large, fully equipped, outdoor community
kitchen and dining area. We kept the facilities clean and neat,
turned over the tents after each guest, and worked on the farm a
few days a week milking the goats and performing typical farm
chores. Lily grew like a pampered garden vegetable during this
time and seemed to love every minute of it. She smiled all the
time and slept like a baby. We all learned a ton, developed
lifelong friendships, diversified our skill sets, and had a
blast. But most importantly, we grew closer together as a family.
The three of us slept together in a queen size bed under the
stars every night. We went to sleep and woke up with the sunrise
and to the sounds of nature - no alarm clocks. We didn't have
television, cell phone service, or the Internet but we had each
other, and we had an unforgettable experience that drew us closer
together and taught us so much.
After an unforgettable summer, we left Oregon in September 2016
and headed to Montana to spend some time with family. After a few
months in Montana, we headed to Michigan in late November to
spend some time with grandpa. We are currently still living in
Holland, Michigan, and enjoying a pretty wonderful life while we
keep an eye on the Gazette for the right opportunity. I currently
work from 6am to 11am seven days a week, and it allows us time to
take daily adventures - Lily is especially fond of the beautiful
Michigan beaches.
We are a family that is impossible not to love. We are carefree,
fear free, and debt free. I, Buddy, am an over-achiever,
extroverted communicator, highly productive, sensitive and
compassionate, cries at the end of movies, servant leader,
determined to live a life that matters. I am also deeply in love
with my family, this life, and this world. We just accepted an
amazing offer to become caretakers along the Central California
coast via a recent Gazette Help Wanted ad.
For the future, we are also interested in Alaska, Hawaii and even
Europe eventually. If you would like to get to know us better
please visit our website at XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Greetings! My family and I are seeking a caretaker position. My
name is Elizabeth (Izzie for short). My husband, Larry, and I
moved in and began taking care of my Mom in 2007 then my sister
and then my father who was in the beginning stages of dementia.
In 2013, my husband was relocated to Las Vegas, NV. We took my
Dad with us, and my husband's brother Gary moved along with us.
My Dad developed a heart condition and later Alzheimer's. I was
the primary care provider of my Dad with help from my husband and
brother-in-law for meals, medication, bathing, scheduling
appointments, financial and others as needed, until he progressed
to the point that I needed help with in home physical care. My
father passed away in March 2017, and as we are experienced
caretakers would be willing to take care of your property in the
Las Vegas, NV area with the same love, attention to details and
commitment as we have for my family. We are open to most
caretaker's situations whether simply house or pet sitting. I can
provide references from agencies used in service to my Dad as to
my character and diligence. We are good with plants, lawns, or
other maintaining as needed as Larry and Gary have some
mechanical, electrical and plumbing experience. I trained as a
life coach, teach meditation/mindfulness life directions, and
have been accepted into an online advanced mastery training
program. We do not regularly drink or use any illegal drugs, but
Larry and Gary do smoke, but strictly outside because I am
asthmatic. I am great cook, also a grandmother, and willing to
assist with children, aging parents, or as an administrative
assistant. Long-term is desired, but open to semi-temporary as
well (preferably not under two months). If interested, please
call XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Thanks.

Arizona Cowboy has written true stories in four exciting and
interesting books all about half a century on horseback. 2005,
was the year the books closed on the Arizona, cattle and horse
ranch named the DK Ranch. After nearly fifty years there as a
cowhand, I had advanced as their chief honcho. During the start
of the year 2005, the handwriting on the wall began and the books
closed on this historic steer and horse ranch. I sadly, then,
became my pen-name, The Last DK Cowboy. Read stories of true
happenings during our daily work. Happily chasing steers over the
open range while aboard bronco horses we were trying to make into
usable cowponies. Join me by enjoying these true tales and later
in the other books describing a rewarding, exciting life among
wild cattle and wilder cowhands. Ridin' out in Arizona's
beautiful, natural scenic wonders. These true tales, although
unusual, are just as I recollect them. To all those who have ever
dreamed of being a cowboy, here's your chance to ride along with
me as your side-kick and saddle pard. You can view an
entertaining introduction with many colored pictures at
