The Seafaring Caretaker

Captain Jack Neiman is a true world traveler. He got his chance to see the globe by participating in several wars: World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and the Cold War. After taking early retirement from the Navy in 1963, he got involved in property caretaking at age 39.

He started his caretaking career at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, working at LeConte Lodge on top of Old Smoky Mountain. After a detour delivering an airplane to Bolivia and staying five years, he landed an exceptional position as a caretaker for an American physician on Roatan Island, one of Honduras’s three Bay Islands.

The doctor’s home was a two bedroom ranch style house located high above a scenic lagoon with a beautiful view of the ocean. Captain Jack’s main responsibility was to be a presence at the house to prevent any theft or vandalism. He built his own boat dock for his 30 foot SeaRay power boat and would get supplies from boats that came to the island twice a month, or fly over to Honduras with his twin engine Cessna.

After living on Roatan for 11 years, Captain Jack decided to move on and became a full time RVer in the States, traveling in a VW Winnebago Rialta from Key West to San Diego. Whatever Captain Jack ends up doing, he always makes an interesting and exciting adventure out of it!
